Albany Medical Center Postgraduate Fellowship In Emergency Medicine

Inception Date: 2011

Curriculum: The Albany Medical Center (AMC) Physician Assistant Postgraduate Fellowship in Emergency Medicine will provide an intense, well-rounded 12 months of clinical and didactic training to facilitate a successful career as an emergency medicine physician assistant. Fellows will not only have their core training in emergency medicine, but will also have the opportunity to rotate through many sub-specialty clinical rotations. Upon completion of this program, the EMPA fellow will have the knowledge and skills necessary to make them a successful practitioner of emergency medicine in any clinical setting. Fellows attend weekly conference, simulation lab training, cadaver lab sessions, monthly Journal Club, and attend a national and local conference as well as Toxicology Teaching Day Conference.

Clinical Rotations: 

  • Cadaver Lab - at least twice per year
  • Sim Lab - quarterly
  • Adult and pediatric emergency medicine   
  • Toxicology - 4 weeks 
  • Ophthalmology- 1 week 
  • Ultrasound - 2 weeks 
  • Surgical ICU - 4 weeks   
  • EMS - 3 days (optional) 
  • Lifenet Helicopter Transport - 2 days (optional) 
  • Radiology - 1 week 
  • Cardiology - 2 weeks (ICU) 
  • Trauma-  4 weeks 
  • Orthopedics - variable 
  • Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner Training (optional) 
  • Research opportunities   
  • ACLS, PALS, & ATLS Training once per year 
  • Monthly Journal Club 
  • Weekly Grand Rounds   
  • Procedure Lab - at least 2 times per year 
  • Airway Management -1 week

Program Length: 12 months

Class Size: 5 fellows

Class start dates: August (flexible) and October (flexible)

Credential: Certificate and BLS, ACLS, PALS and ATLS Certifications

Stipend: $50,000/year
